Mr Mobile: the tale of a team that energised to take on bigger rivals

BrStarted in the mid-90s by two brothers on a market stall, a small, tight-knit core team remains key. “I was always into technology from a young age,” says Mr Mobile’s co-founder and managing director Bobby Singh.

“I was into the gaming consoles. I had the Sega and Nintendo ones and then the PlayStation, and it grew from there once mobiles became available.”

As we sit in Singh’s cosy office nestled in a corner of his company’s 20,000 square-foot warehouse in Trafford Park, Manchester, it would be fair to say that it’s not just his enthusiasm for the mobile industry that has grown.

From humble beginnings on a Manchester market stall, Singh has built an accessories manufacturing and distribution company that services wholesalers and independent retailers not just in the UK, but also in 26 other countries.

“I was one of the first people in my college to have a mobile phone, and I have always had a drive and passion for it, so it was easy to go into that field,” he says.

Bobby and his brother Danny started their market stall in 1996, selling computer games and then mobile accessories as the mobile market grew while Bobby studied for an accounting and finance degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Mr Mobile hires distribution veteran

Former account manager is tasked with getting Tech Energi products in more retail stores

Accessory distributor Mr Mobile has appointed former Data Select and Brightstar account manager Craig Harper as its new national business development manager.

The appointment of Harper comes in anticipation of the launch of the new Tech Energi range of power accessories.

Harper was also key account manager at Brightstar in 2015 and was national account manager at Data Select between 2007 and 2011.

He will be tasked with getting the new range of Mr Mobile accessories into national retail outlets such as supermarkets and mobile retailers, as well as increasing the business Mr Mobile does with retailers such as CeX, the online resource that specialises in selling pre-owned gadgets.

Harper will also help to increase sales of Advanced Accessories and Alcatel devices distributed by Mr Mobile.

Mr Mobile powers up with Tech Energi

New accessories range is modelled on the energy drink market

Accessory seller Mr Mobile has launched a new range of power accessories modelled on the energy drink market.

The products, called Tech Energi, comprise of a range of nine wall chargers and charging cables packaged in small and large drinks-style cans.

Tech Energi will initially be available from the Mr Mobile website later this month, but managing director Bobby Singh confirmed he is in talks with up to seven retailers to range the products in stores or online during the festive period to add to the million sales it sees every year.

Speaking to Mobile News, Singh said the new brand would stand out in an otherwise “boring” market, adding: “We’ve felt for a while that the power market has always been bland and, for something people use all the time, the products look quite plain.

“Tech Energi is marketed on the Monster and Red Bull energy drinks because we wanted it to stand out on the shelf.

“The energy drinks market is a massive market that people relate to. Tech Energi has a similar concept, but for your mobile, as it gives energy when your mobile is feeling drained or running out of power.” Read More

Mr Mobile backs NFSP deal to boost its sales

Manufacturer and distributor of tech accessories Mr Mobile has secured a long-term agreement with the National Federation of Sub Postmasters as its supplier of tech accessories.

Mr Mobile offers options from 6ft floor standing displays to smaller counter display units currently stocked by more than 100 post offices across the UK.

Mr Mobile managing director Bobby Singh told Mobile News he hopes to hit one million in sales from this deal: “This year we moved around 645,000 units of accessories but we hope to sell over one million units with the deal by year’s end.”

With the low-end wholesale prices ranging from 99p to £3, Singh believes that this is perfect for a nationwide agreement with the National Federation of Sub Postmasters: “This gives a great impulse buy advantage and a perfect fit with Post Offices making them fantastic returns on

investment compared to other products currently sold,” he said. With 10 years of manufacturing experience Mr Mobile has further hopes of expansion, having previously worked with small independents.

It’s also open to provide procurement for some larger companies: “We are looking to really just deal much more directly with some of the larger chain stores and in the coming months we’re launching a premium range which we’re really excited about.” Read More

Mr Mobile aiming to connect more overseas

Brothers Bobby and Danny Singh think there is potential for their firm to make further inroads into the overseas market

A company which manufactures and supplies accessories for mobile phones and tablet devices, is seeking to get ahead home and abroad.

Manchester-based Mr Mobile was launched by brothers Bobby and Danny Singh in 2003 and sells everything from mobile phone covers, flip cases, chargers, earphones, car kits to phone speakers to wholesalers and independent retail chains.

Although 85 per cent of its turnover comes from the UK market, the rest is driven from overseas, where the pair see potential for even further growth.

Bobby said: “We started actively trading overseas two years ago after we saw orders come from businesses in Europe.

“It made us sit up and start looking at other ways to grow the business.

“The UK markets is still our biggest and we supply some leading retailers such as Asda, Tesco and WH Smith, but going overseas has meant that we have a bigger market to tap into.

“We are now attending trade shows, which are a great way to let people know who we are and meet with new customers.” Read More
